David Gefen is an Associate Professor of MIS at Drexel University. David was a senior MIS project manager in charge of the design, programming, implementation, and ongoing improvement of a large complex IT before entering academia. Prior to that he was a systems analyst, database administrator, and senior programmer. As a professor, he specialized in teaching database analysis and design, programming languages, and MIS management for the last six years. David won the distinguished LeBow Excellence in Teaching Award and the Drexel University Faculty Teaching Award, Graduate Level. Professor Gefen received his Ph.D. in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University in 1997. He has over forty five refereed publications to his name, many of them in the top MIS journals.
Chittibabu Govindarajulu is an Assistant Professor of MIS at Drexel University. He has been teaching Visual Basic since 1996, the year he graduated from University of Mississippi with a Ph.D. in MIS. Professor Govindarajulu has an extensive publication record (over twenty five refereed publications), several of which are in top MIS journals. Before Ph.D. he served as a Deputy Contracts Officer in an Atomic Power Project where he oversaw development of purchase related information systems. Professor Govindarajulu specializes in teaching Windows and Web development courses using ASP, VB.NET, ASP NET, ADO NET. and Cold Fusion.
Visual Basic .NET, the successor to Visual Basic 6, is a powerful, fully object-oriented programming tool that allows you to create rich desktop applications for Windows and Web applications. Gefen and Govindarajulu's Advanced Visual Basic® .NET presents complex topics in Visual Basic .NET in an accessible manner that is easy to understand. Begin with a comprehensive review of VB .NET fundamentals before delving into ADO .NET, ASP .NET, and other advanced topics of VB .NET programming.
Following the proven teaching approach of including both conceptual and practical materials in every lecture, each chapter in this book features two sections: a theoretical section and a hands-on review lab section. The theory sections focus on the syntactical and structural elements of VB .NET, while the lab sections focus on guided application building to reinforce student learning. The topics covered in this book include:
- Fundamentals of VB .NET programming
- Directory and file handling in VB .NET combined with access methods
- Multithreading
- Graphics
- ActiveX Data Objects .NET (ADO .NET)
- Active Server Pages. NET (ASP .NET) using the code-behind programming model
- XML Web Services
All the lab examples are included with the student CD to facilitate student learning.
